I have been using EntreCard for two weeks now. There are a lot of “blog services” you can find but I have only good words for them. It’s a super product to visit random blogs. I’m not to sure if you can setup Stumble! in order to browse only for blogs, but Entrecard is very light and fast except when their data center goes on fire .
I discovered there are many blogs that have money for topic. Most of them talk about techniques to generate income from blogging. The problem is 90 percent of these blogs are not very convincing. I know my blog has a pretty ridiculous design but I started this to learn about css, php and how to generate traffic. I want to list some of the mistakes I saw on these money blogs.
- Please find yourself a host and domain name: Your website will cost you around 6$/month, you will have more freedom for your design and it will look more credible. I always find it funny when the blog talking about money is hosted on blogger.
- You might not have the skills to design or modify your wordpress theme. There are plenty of web developers out there, if you take the time to search in forums you could get something decent for cheap.
- Look for a picture that’s professional for your Top header. A bad example would be the header you have here at the top. The animated chameleon is a bit childish and will normally give a cute impression to a new visitor. Just to say your header is one of the first thing a visitor sees when visiting a site.
- Do not add every widget you discover on your sidebars. I’m sure you have these Facebook friends where it takes you two minutes before the whole profile loads. It works the same way with your widgets, I personally find them so annoying I won’t stop to look what they display. Try to select the ones that bring you more traffic and get rid of the annoying and useless ones. You can use the crawler from crazyegg to know which widgets to keep.
- Don’t lie to your readers. People will feel if you are genuine or not and might not come back if disappointed. There are many bloggers copying John Chow and displaying their monthly income. Some are really not credible when I view the Alexa rank or the comments made on the different posts.
If you have anything else to add, please do. I sure some people would be glad to learn what you have to say on the topic.
Comments
I really like this post. For one I am a big fan of Entrecard. I have discovered tons of new blogs through them. I like the points you covered too. I still consider myself a newbie but when I first started out blogging I put every single widget I could find on my blog. I thought the more widgets the better. Well I learned the hard way and now I am a little more selective. I still have my moments though since I am always trying new things. For me I didn’t know my blog was loading slow until someone told me. I agree with you about the professional header too. It’s just so hard to find that perfect one for you. I have noticed that a lot of the blogs about the making money that are hosted on blogger too, kinda silly isn’t it?
There is some controversy over how representative Alexa’s user base is of typical Internet behavior. If http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa’s user base is a fair statistical sample of the internet user population, Alexa’s ranking should be quite accurate.
Thanks Stopmom,
Entercard is a great service but I’m not sure what to do with the points I keep accumulating. I’ll get an idea soon
“Alexa”
This is why I added “or comments made on the different post”. I know Alexa isn’t accurate but I like to use it
LoL totally agree with the part of having their own domain names
It’s all about credibility and image!
They are telling us how to make money and can’t pay for hosting.Ok i know! am getting a cutomised theme,so don’t start on me too.I am acquiring entrecard credits too, still new to me.
About entrecard, Tyna how do you plan using your points?? Will you sell them?
I don’t know what to do yet, still checking the entrecard out for now.
you’ve listed the five points clearly, really interesting topic
and I agree with all of them
I agree about the widgets. I have a friend with a tone of then. It take 30 sec. to load her page with my high speed conection. Imagine if you have 56k.
Almost a lot of widget make the connection hard
The Success
Agreed on your point about the number of widget bogging down the loading time. Am in the process of removing some from mine after reading your post. Cheers!
Some great points. I like reading how to make money online, but there are so many blogs out there that just can’t keep my interest. But of course, that goes for most blogs. The ones that do keep my interest I tend to put on my side bar. I also tend to share what I’ve made or what I know when it comes to working online. However, my blog isn’t just about making money. I usually write about whatever is on my mind. People say stick to one topic, but I find that boring.
Great article, Pablo!
One thing I would like to share is Not many people realize the major problem of Not getting search engine traffic is the Contents that have on their Money Blogs are Not Unique, most of the time they are Duplicated.
Duplicated Content = Google(Search Engine) ban your blog for listings. Due to people follow their upline or company training calls’ advise to set up a blog and post Pre-Written articles, they had no idea why they are not getting traffic. So be careful guys..
“Don’t lie to your readers. People will feel if you are genuine or not and might not come back if disappointed.” Pablo said it all with this.
Good luck to all bloggers out there
Very informative. Haven’t tried entrecard but will check it out. Thanks!
